Telluride Review It's not often that a vehicle debuts at the top of its class and maintains that dominance against new competitors. But that's precisely what the Kia Telluride has done. Now in its fifth year, the Telluride sets the benchmark for future midsize three-row SUVs. After a significant refresh last year, the 2024 Kia Telluride returns mostly unchanged.

A seven-or eight-passenger vehicle (depending on trim level), the Telluride is the largest SUV in Kia's lineup, slotting above the Sorento. Unlike the Sorento and its tight third-row seating, the Telluride can comfortably accommodate adult passengers in all three rows. Furthermore, Telluride trim levels range from affordable to luxurious. There are a few off-road-capable variants, and even the entry-level model includes a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every Telluride includes a forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and highway-driving assist. The Telluride offers a very roomy and upscale-feeling cabin with easy access to all three rows. Passenger space is excellent in both the second and third rows. The space feels more open thanks in part to the abundance of large windows.

The controls are clearly labeled and grouped logically. Kia has repositioned the touchscreen closer to the driver, making a once extra-long reach a thing of the past. Visibility is excellent thanks to plenty of large windows. The camera systems and parking sensors are helpful extras. 

While many carmakers are replacing larger six-cylinder engines with turbocharged four-cylinders, the 2024 Kia Telluride sticks with a burly 3.8-liter V6 that produces 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. That makes it one of the most powerful in the class and gets the Telluride to 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds, which is respectable for a three-row SUV. The eight-speed automatic transmission strikes a good balance between fuel economy and responsiveness, delivering power on demand. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available at an additional cost on supporting trims. X-Line, X-Pro, and Prestige trims come standard with all-wheel drive.

The 2024 Kia Telluride received four out of five stars in frontal and rollover crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) issued the nearly identical 2023 Telluride its highest score of Good for all tests and named it a Top Safety Pick+, the Institute's highest honor.

A range of deep, rich, premium paint colors including Everlasting Silver, Gravity Gray, Dark Moss, Ebony Black, Midnight Lake Blue, Dawning Red, Glacial White Pearl, Jungle Green, and Wolf Gray are available for drivers who demand a rich finish.
