Recently, Kia added two more models to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick List for 2021.

The new vehicles were the all-new Kia K5 that was built after November 2020 and the Kia Seltos built after August 2020. They are joining the Telluride, Sorento, Sportage, Soul, Stinger, and Forte. All of these vehicles won the Top Safety Pick, except for the Kia K5, which won the Top Safety Pick Plus award. Now, Kia has 8 of it's vehicles winning the Top Safety Pick awards.
A vehicle qualifies for the Plus award by earning a "Good" rating in 6 crashworthiness tests. The tests include driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.
To win this award, they must also receive an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention. Standard headlights must be rated “Acceptable” or “Good."
There are many features that attribute to the great safety rating of the K5. A lightweight, but robust steel structure built on the vehicles platform, helps to safely secure the passenger. The K5 also has an advanced nine-airbag system. This system protects from the front and sides within the cabin. It also includes a Driver's Knee Airbag. The Traction Control System helps to reduce or prevent wheel spin while accelerating. Hill-Start Assist Control helps keep your vehicle steady when moving off an incline.
As for the Kia Seltos, we can assume that these key safety features are what helped contribute to it's induction into the IIHS Top Safety Pick. There are Dual Front Advance Airbags, Dual Front Seat-Mounted Side Airbags, and Full-Length Side Curtain Airbags. A Rollover Sensor allows the system to release the side airbags, side curtain airbags and sealt-belt pretensioners, if an impending rollover is detected. The LATCH system allows for quicker and safer installation of children's seats. In addition, there is also a Traction Control System, Hill Start Assist Control, and Downhill Brake Control.

If safety is important for your vehicle purchase, you can't go wrong with one of these eight Kia models. Stop in to test drive one today!
